The public Regional Authority to which the management of Riviera di Ulisse Regional Park has been entrusted was established with the regional law no. 21 of 06/02/2003. Riviera di Ulisse’s Park was born by unifying three already existing protected areas: the promontory of Gianola-Mt di Scauri, Monte Orlando, stretch of coast of Sperlonga) each characterized by different environmental features but sharing significant Roman evidences.

From south to north the park includes the protected areas of the Regional Urban Park of Mt Orlando in Gaeta, the small Sub-urban Park of Gianola e Mt Scauri, and the Promontory of Emperor Tiberius Villa and coastal area of Torre Capovento (Tower Capovento)-Punta Cetarola, an outstanding marine and coastal natural monument. Riviera di Ulisse Regional Park is managed by the second youngest Park Authority in Latium Region. The small park is like an interrupted mosaic of emerged lands and marine environments with

small secluded beaches, bays, marine caves, fossils, tectonic structures, and ancient shorelines with rocks shaped beautifully by sea and wind erosion. This area of the Sud Pontino’s coast is an area of outstanding natural beauty, with the foothills of the Aurunci Mountains , part of the Aurunci National Park , falling into the sea at Punta Cetarola, near Sperlonga . However, this territory is still relatively unknown to foreigners. There are several areas with majestic cliffs overhanging on the sea developing along the coast. The geological environments of Riviera di Ulisse Regional Park are varied and interesting, its nature history and archaeology trails are fascinating and unique. The Park Riviera D’Ulisse is also the perfect starting point to explore the historic and cultural ruts of this territory , the South Pontino rich in monuments from the past witnessing the cultures of ancient Italy .

The park geographical boundaries are connected by the coastal line of Southern Latium but as you can see from the map the 3 protected areas are interrupted by the towns of Formia and Gaeta . Further north, at less than a couple of miles from the last of the three protected areas (Emperor Tiberius Roman Villa and the rocky cliffs of Punta Cetarola) there is the small enchanting medieval village of Sperlonga with its charming historic centre .

Although much of the surrounding and adjoining Formia and Gaeta areas are urbanized, all the three protected zones remain largely undeveloped, and in places quite remote. The Park covers ha 434 of land and ha 80 of marine area for a total of ha 514, characterized by important and interesting itineraries in a special combination of nature, history, and archaeology. So follow us in this journey through nature, sea and history .
