The Circeo Park Management

Sabaudia is the headquarters of the management of the Circeo National Park, with a Visitors Centre, the Natural History Museum and the "Claudia Ortese" Pontine Marshes Education and Health Documentation Centre. The Circeo National Park is also the location for the Labnet Lazio”, a laboratory of environmental education, one of the national networks promoted by the Ministries of the Environment and Public Education. Sabaudia, offering services principally aimed at increasing the teaching potential of park and other protected areas of the Lazio region. The teaching methods of the Campus and its activities are carried out under the supervision of a scientific board, whose members have international recognition within scientific and environmental culture. The laboratory is managed by the Pangea Institute, an Italian NGO specialising in environmental education and training. The institute founded in 1992, gathered significant experience, both nationally and internationally, through years of commitment to nature conservation and the establishment and management of parks and natural reserves also in different zones of the Lazio region. The Italian Pangea Institute research activities employs different teams; some activities are listed in detail in the posters of the park and in the park museum. In addition to ongoing studies on bats, small carnivores monitoring and registration of pluvial data, several initiatives and international research projects about climatic variations and acid rain are carried out in the park.

The activities brought to an end have achieved a vegetation map, a geologic map; hydro-geologic map as well as the gathering and registration of scientific and socioeconomic data for the creation of a monitoring programs and the determination of the parameters for the sustainable management of the territory. lakes of Fogliano and Monaci whose present conformations hinders the migratory avifauna from spoiling their resources. The shore habitats will be restored by planting right species and by re-naturalizing the shores. With an enhanced protection from urban and mass tourism developments the Circeo National Park can reveal many paleontological, archeological and historical points of interest alongside its natural habitats.
